PRINTS: BREAKING BOUNDARIES

JANUARY 4 - FEBRUARY 23, 2013

Prints: Breaking Boundaries
February 18 - February 23, 2013

In this exhibition curated by CMCA curator emeritus Bruce Brown, 35 Maine artists use new techniques and materials to expand the definition of fine art printmaking, which in the past has traditionally been limited to editions of etchings, engravings, silkscreens, woodcuts, and lithographs printed on archival paper. These processes are increasingly giving way to one-of-a-kind prints on a variety of surfaces. Contemporary prints can include drawing, painting, monotype printing, encaustic, and digital manipulation, as well as multiple layers of collaged, stitched, or folded paper and even added objects for a 3-D or sculptural effect.

The artists represent 18 Maine communities from York to Farmington and Orono and include Karen Adrienne, Judith Allen-Efstathiou, Debra Arter, Will Barnet, Holly Berry, Shawn Brewer, Martha Briana, Kyle Bryant, Sam Cady, Crystal Cawley, Corliss Chastain, Nancy R. Davison, Kristin Fitzpatrick, Harold Garde, Tanner Gasco-Wiggin, Rebecca Goodale, Susan Groce, Tom Hall, Adrienne Herman, Frances Hodsdon, Elizabeth Jabar, Lin Lisberger, Cindy McGuirl, Daniel Minter, Meg Brown Payson, Damir Porobic, Ellen Roberts, Kris Sader, Delphine Sherin, Jennifer Strode, Andrea Sulzer, David Twiss, Sarah Vosmus, Barbra Whitten, and Henry Wolyniec.
