In this workshop, graphite artist Whitney River shares a fun, unique way to approach drawing. By first coating the paper with graphite, artists can then discover how to draw by lifting highlights with an eraser as well as by adding darker values with pencil. Whitney will demonstrate the process, talk about various types of paper, and show how she uses different erasers and pencils to capture values. Artists will then have an opportunity to explore this magical approach themselves as they watch their drawings come to life.
Ages 18+ | Attendance capped at first 20 guests | Sliding admission $10 -20
Whitney River has been teaching drawing to students of all ages for three decades. Her paintings and drawings capture her love of the natural world through close observation and careful rendering, and she enjoys sharing this passion with her students. She is a full time artist, teacher, and mother, and finds endless inspiration exploring the Maine beaches and forests.
Whitney’s poetic drawings and paintings invite the viewer to share her appreciation for the intricate details found in nature. Through close observation and realistic rendering of organic forms, Whitney creates meditative compositions that evoke the human experience. Since graduating from Yale University in 1995, she has shown extensively throughout New England, and her drawings and paintings are represented in many private and corporate collections.
