The Haunted—Contemporary Photography Conjured in New England | Photography Panel
Saturday, December 13 | 4pm
Join CMCA Curator Grant Wahlquist and artists Tad Beck, Kate Greene, Dylan Hausthor, and Jocelyn Lee for a spirited discussion and debate about contemporary photography. Prompted by the recent publication of The Haunted—Contemporary Photography Conjured in New England, this event explores the way in which each artist uses tropes of haunting, spiritualism, witchcraft, and the occult to understand the nature and role of image making in our postmodern, post-digital age.
The Haunted, edited by Lee, invokes New England’s overlapping histories and highlights the different ways in which the art and technology of photography reveals hidden dimensions of the world and conjures new possibilities and ways of seeing. In Lee’s own words, it “reveals a distinctly New England sensibility—the images are moody, introspective, and deeply attuned to the natural and supernatural qualities of the landscape.” Signed copies of The Haunted and other volumes by the participants will be available for purchase immediately following the discussion.
