Your generosity enables us to do what few other arts organizations in New England do to present the work of over 400 living artists to more than 13,000 visitors each year. Thanks to you, CMCA brings the community contemporary art from artists at all stages of their careers and offers educational programs to deepen the connection to artists and their art.

Why contemporary art?

Art of our time resonates with us–its creators exist as we do. Their work is evidence of the same sights and sounds that we experience, poignant expressions of the spirit of our time.

Of course, while all contemporary art is not great art, all great art was once contemporary art. This is what makes it exciting. Time has not winnowed out a select few icons for posterity, so you have an opportunity to interpret what you see for yourself before anyone else does it for you, and to participate in shaping the future of art.

Our modest size means that every donor makes an important impact. CMCA depends on the generosity of individuals, foundations, and corporations to help us cover 50% of our operating costs each year. Your support will help CMCA:

• > Present 20 professional exhibitions of emerging, mid-career, and established artists each year.
• > Provide a strong framework around our artistic activities with over 50 educational programs on-site and off-site across the state of Maine.
• > Build a community in support of living art and artists to celebrate art as an integral, vital part of life.
