The world premiere of Many Times Times Square, a soundscape composition by electronic music pioneer Joel Chadabe, will run from October 23 through December 2 in Audition Space, CMCA's sound art gallery. The piece, commissioned for CMCA, is an immersive soundscape composition based on field recordings made on Manhattan Island.
Composer Joel Chadabe, who summers in Stonington, Maine, is an internationally recognized pioneer in electronic music composition and the founder and president of the Electronic Music Foundation. Chadabe also founded Ear to the Earth, a worldwide network for environmental sound that aims to raise awareness of our natural and urban environments through sound art and image.
CMCA’s Audition Space was conceived by new media artist N. B. Aldrich of Penobscot, Maine, and was made possible by an Innovative Production grant from the Maine Arts Commission. Aldrich is an associate professor in the New Media department and the MFA Intermedia department at the University of Maine at Orono, and he serves as adjunct curator of sound art for CMCA.
